I have just completed my final year project. This task was hard but with a good knowledge of project management I was able to mitigate any risks of not meeting the deadline and was able to keep to a good schedule of each iteration of my project.
I have successfully managed to develop a Raspberry Pi garden monitoring system which connects to an Android Application. The user will be able to monitor statistics in their garden from the application.
I have just finished my placement year being the IT Assistant at Avondale Foods, a food production supplier, supplying coleslaws and wet salads throughout the UK. I will be starting my final year of Study in Ulster University, Jordanstown very soon and I look forward to the work I will produce this year.
My role on placement was very technical. My main responsibility was to configure hardware, installing software and maintaining all the PC's on two factory sites and offices. The job itself was extrememly fast paced as often I had to apply fixes to factory lines printers and replace hardware during production. I also had to train the staff on how to use new software, which often I had to learn how to use myself first. Often I was also given responsibility in daily database backups of the system.
I also became a Code club volunteer. I volunteered in a primary school in Lurgan, teaching an after school class until January. Throughout this time I planned each class, and took each lesson with the help of two teachers in the class. This was a really amazing opportunity to learn from, my communication skills have really improved as well as my presentation skills, through having to teach a class every week. CodeClub and Coderdojo combined have been both been very rewarding teaching young people new skills such as JavaScript, Python, HTML/CSS and new technologies such as the Raspberry Pi, Micro:Bit, and much more.
In March, I decided to sit three MTA Certifications. These were;
MTA: Networking fundamentals
MTA: Database Fundamentals
MTA: Security Fundamentals
I really enjoyed learning for these exams. A lot of the information within the exams I have had hands on experience with in my placement year, which had proven extremely useful.
I was a volunteer youth worker in my teenage years, and I loved it. I am a mentor at CoderDojo, where I will sit, work with and help the young people who come in In February, I also became a STEM Ambassador. This was part of becoming a mentor for CoderDojo, although this has opened so many more opportunities for me. Every month, I am invited to different schools or groups, to encourage and inspire young people to achieve more and progress further in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)
I completed my second year of university. I have been exposed to a number of different skills this year, such as Java, C#, SQL, PHP, and Python. One technology that really peaked my interest this year was the Raspberry Pi. I find it amazing how a tiny computer can do so much! At the moment, I currently have a voice recognition kit running connected to the Google Assistant. I can ask her any question and she will reply with an answer straight away! I have programmed her to light up when talking, recognise my voice saying "Hello Google!
PYTHON
JAVA
SQL
C#
PHP
